When Otis first came into the rescue, he was seen as one of the cutest older pugs that we have brought in. It wasn't very long into his stay that it was recognized that he may need to go directly to the vet. why? Well when he would try to pee, it didn't seem to start and stop just the one time and at some times it didn't look like he went at all. It didn't take much of this observation to determine that he really needed to see a doctor. It is a sign of a problem if there is an attempt to go but nothing comes out.
So, little fuzzy Otis went to the doctor for his first visit with our rescue and before leaving there was told that he had 3-5 weeks maybe lucky to have 3 months because of bladder cancer. His age and the location of the issue made it difficult to perform surgery and additional testing ran the risk of spreading the disease beyond its current location. So Otis returned to his foster family where he was to spend the rest of his days and to continue to receive medication to address his bladder condition and to provide palative care. Fortunately for Otis he far outlived the potential 3 month mark. That grumpy old man was able to stay in foster care for over a year and 3 months (maybe we missed hearing the year part from the doctor)
Little trooper Otis, lived this extra time with an air of happiness and long term din't with the help of medications and lots of love from his foster family was cared for until the end beating the odds that were put against him for so long.
After a year and a half and With deep sorrow his foster family saw him off across the Rainbow Bridge. A sweetheart to the end, he will be missed dearly by his foster family and the rescue. Rest in peace and with much love to sweet Otis! You were loved very much!
